My 2022 YouthStay Experience by Erica Jade Clairmont

My name is Erica Clairmont. When I was 13, I first took part in the LYS program. I had the opportunity again in 2022 when I was 15. I’m from Wanblee SD, on the Pine Ridge reservation. I first heard about the YouthStay program from my  teacher, Christy Webber. I am so glad I heard about the program because I love traveling, meeting new people, and exploring new places. If you are like me, you will love the LYS program. Coming from a kid that lives on the reservation, you don’t get many opportunities like this one so I encourage any kid to do it.  It was scary at first but I promise you will have the time of your life in Boston.  You’re there for 10 days and in those 10 days you will explore Boston, do fun and cool stuff you thought you’d never do.  My favorite was going to all the beaches and Quincy market.  If you don’t know what Quincy Market is, it’s a place where you can watch many street performers, have many options of food, and blow your money… which I did lol.  It’s very fun!  I know it’s scary leaving home and your family but home will always be here and so will your family.  Lakota YouthStay is a once in a life opportunity and I am so glad I got the opportunity!
